Rocket Magazine Fall 2012 - Oxblood & Smoking Slipper
Oxblood, burgundy, chianti – whatever you call it, this rich hue continues to rule the runways all over the world. Boots, coats, dresses, and blouses were all made just a little bit cooler by this not-quite neutral shade. There is virtually no wrong to go about combining this gorgeous color with what’s already in your closet; try a cozy burgundy sweater layered over a black skirt and tights for a more feminine take on the trend or a pair of oxblood-colored skinny jeans with an embellished tee and blazer for a more street chic style.
Rocket Magazine Fall 2012 - Graphic Sweater
To stay warm while staying stylish, pick up one of the sporty chic graphic sweaters that are so popular this season. Sequins, gemstones, bold patterns, and wild animals all added a shot of style to comfortable, loose sweaters seen on the runway. This casual style is easy and versatile, and designers paired their sweaters with fitted pants and short skirts. To make this trend work for you, choose a loose-fitting sweater with a punchy graphic that can be worn with your favorite pair of dark skinnies or dressed up with heeled boots and an A-line skirt.
Rocket Magazine Fall 2012 - Military Chic
5. Military chic was also spotted on catwalks for the fall. Although designers didn’t always employ this trend in your average army green, the sharp shapes and rows of gleaming buttons were a sartorial salute to armed forces all over the world. Knee-high leather boots and lace up booties marched down the runway and added polish to these mostly monochromatic looks. To make this look work in a more civilian setting, invest in an olive cargo jacket that will keep you warm and provide a neutral base with which to pair colored jeans and a classic cable knit sweater.
One Item, Three Ways: Lace Dress - Pretty Chill
The final installment in the One Item, Three Ways series is a look that's more appropriate for the cool fall weather that's starting to roll in here on the East Coast.

A soft, tribal-print sweatshirt adds color to this simple look without overwhelming the delicate lace dress, and a narrow belt at your waist helps add structure to an otherwise loose and flowy look. This outift is an example of how you can rework one piece of clothing -- like a favorite dress -- and use a little creativity to turn into something else, like a fun, textured skirt.

Accessorize with a leopard print bangle and a metallic hairpiece that will keep your hair off your face when fall winds begin to blow. A neutral shoe seems like a simple addition, but the smoking slipper silhouette and studded detail make it a unique way to complete this outfit.

I hope you've enjoyed this series, and that it's inspired you to rethink how you year what you wear!
One Item, Three Ways: Lace Dress - Pretty Tough
Hello again, and I apologize for the lengthy hiatus. I'll be back posting about twice a week now. Anyway, on to the outfit!

This look is the second in this "One Item, Three Ways" series. It's quite a bit tougher than the first one I featured, and I hope that this ensemble will appeal to women whose style sense is a little less girly and a little more edgy.

Of course, the centerpiece of this outfit is the white lace dress. It is a piece with a very "sweet" feel, but when paired with a pair of waxed skinny jeans in the Fall 2012 color of the season, it becomes much tougher. The jacket and desert boots' neutral colors help keep the focus on the eye-catching denim while still adding interest and texture. I love this suede jacket as a transition piece that pulls the outfit together and wards off the chill on these cooler autumn nights. Finally, add an edgy gold necklace and you're ready to cross campus looking cool.

I hope you enjoy this second installment in the series, and I'll be back soon with another idea for how to style this great dress!
One Item, Three Ways: Lace Dress - Pretty Preppy
Welcome to my first ever installment of "One Item, Three Ways!" This week's feature is a pretty lace dress with a sheer neckline, sweetheart top, and a classic A-line shape that makes it flattering for every body.

This first look only features three pieces, but each one adds femininity and originality to a very simple dress. A navy blue blazer tones down the sweetness of the dress by adding a touch of masculinity and adds structure to the dress's flowy shape as well. A pair of fun, gray polka dot heels mix well with the palette of blues and neutrals, and a blue crystal necklace adds brightness and shine.

I hope this first look has inspired you to dust off your own lacy dress or top and begin assessing its potential to be a very versatile part of your wardrobe!

Fun Fairy Fashion

Fun Fairy Fashion
This set is the second in the "Fun Fashion Flashbacks" series! Another older TV show that I really enjoyed is "The Fairly Oddparents." This series revolves around the magical misadventures of a bucktoothed, pink-hatted boy named Timmy Turner and his two fairy godparents Cosmo and Wanda. "The Fairly Oddparents" have been around since 2001, and it always proves entertaining to watch it and see what craziness these three get up to!

The first ensemble would be perfect for a fun night out with friends. The bright pink tunic is reminiscent of Wanda's swirly pink hair, and a black bandeau bra underneath would give it a sultry edge. If bandeaus aren't your thing, just throw on a simple black tank. Leather look pants are fashion forward, especially when paired with the cap toe trend being seen all over the fall runways. In keeping with the edgy look of this outfit, put on some abstract star earrings that are similar to Cosmo and Wanda's magic wands! Use the curling rod to create waves and soften the look a little before you head out to the party!

The second look includes a scalloped green tank that's the same color as Cosmo's verdant hair. Black sequin shorts add sparkle, and a pair of black wedge heels will have you floating as tall as these two fairies! Finally, a cool crown-shaped ring gives a nod to the golden headwear that Cosmo and Wanda are never without.

I hope you're enjoying this series as much as I am, and that these looks inspire you to look at your favorite shows from a more sartorial standpoint!

Oh-So Organized

Oh-So Organized
For the new school year, I'm getting a new start. My goals are to be more organized, procrastinate less, and make the most of the clothing and money I have. In order to help me achieve these goals, I've created this inspiration board.

First, I'd like to start using a planner to help me remember assignments, projects, and deadlines for my classes. I've attempted to use them before, but never used it for more than a couple of days. But this year I plan to write in it daily and keep myself on track!

Next, I want my room to be as neat and organized as possible. It'll be a challenge, but using these creative storage and organization ideas should make it a little easier!

I also want to use a large wall calendar to create a very visual reminder of things of my weekly responsibilities, meetings, and events. This will help me plan ahead and make sure I'm not overbooking myself.

Another goal of mine is to monitor my finances more closely. Sometimes I spend more money than I've budgeted for, and sometimes I forget that I have enough resources to treat myself. Keeping a closer eye on my bank account and wallet will definitely help with this.

Finally, I'd like to make better use of my wardrobe and the clothes I have. I'm an avid shopper, but I often go for months without wearing my purchases simply because I have so much stuff! So this year my plan is to wear EVERY SINGLE THING that I own at least once! To this end, I've been working on making a fashion lookbook with magazine clippings, inspirational quotes, and outfit ideas.Wearing all of my stuff is a lofty goal, but one that I'm determined to achieve!

Wish me luck this semester, with all of my endeavors, and I hope this might inspire you to reconsider your direction for this upcoming semester as well!

Hello Yellow

Hello Yellow
Summer is on its way out, but its bright colors and breezy dresses are definitely still in! This outfit was inspired by the bright sun I've been in and out of as I've traveled all summer for work and play.

The bright yellow dress seems to be the centerpiece of this outfit, but it is actually the blank canvas on which I've splashed this fun leopard cardigan. The animal print and neon combination are super summery, and the neutral shoes and belt add polish. A pair of simple stud earrings don't distract from the bright color and pattern. Just toss your hair up in a messy bun, throw on a headband, and you're ready to hit the town and enjoy the summer sun!

Sponge and Starfish Style

Sponge and Starfish Style
Welcome to the first installment of my "Fun Fashion Flashbacks" series! In this series, I'll be creating looks inspired by my favorite classic cartoon shows. Although I'm in college now and my tastes in TV have changed since my childhood, watching an episode or two of one of my favorite cartoon shows always helps me relax and relieve stress!

These two looks are based on the characters Spongebob Squarepants and Patrick Star from the show "Spongebob Squarepants" that was created in 1999. The two main characters are best friends and perpetual beach bums, and I've incorporated their signature styles into each ensemble.

On the left I've chosen a collared white shirt, similar to the one that Spongebob usually wears, with a polka dot pattern that is reminiscent of his many holes. The yellow shorts are as bright as this crazy character's personality, and the simple studded sandals are a little lighter than the black patent shoes Spongebob tends to favor. The floral earrings add a bit of sparkle and they are the same color as Sponge's bright blue eyes.

Patrick Star is Spongebob's lazy best friend, and his Hawaiian shorts were the inspiration for the second outfit. The loose, coral pink shirt is perfect for a day at the beach (just don't forget to wear a cami underneath!) and the denim shorts are blue as the ocean. Jeweled purple sandals accent this outfit just like the flowers on Patrick's shorts, and a pair of gold flower earrings allow the sandals to be the shiny centerpiece of this look.

I hope this set has inspired you to look to your favorite shows for style inspiration, and I look forward to sharing the rest of the series with you!
